Visa is the key to opening a new door for students to enter the life of studying abroad. However, according to Dan Tri online newspaper, about 3 out of 10 students applying for a visa have to postpone their dream of studying abroad for many reasons, 80% of which are due to failing the visa interview.

For students who dream of studying in Australia, the interview for an Australian visa is the most important and most important round. So when and how will the Australian visa interview take place, what does it include and what do you need to do to prepare well for this interview?

1. When are you invited for an interview?

Normally, the Australian visa interview round will take place at any time after applying for an Australian visa and completing the medical examination and fingerprinting procedures. However, to save time, you can arrange a medical examination before applying for an Australian visa. An IDP is ready to walk you through the information-filling processes and the location of the medical examination accepted by the Australian consulate. You must remember to provide the receiving staff with your Health Assessment Portal Identify Number (HAP ID) at the time you apply for your visa.

Not all applications are interviewed, so you can get an Australian visa without going through one of these most stressful and anxious rounds. The date and time of the interview will not be announced in advance, you should always open your phone and prepare a calm and ready mind during the period when the interview may take place.

2. How will you be interviewed?

Currently, all interviews for students applying for Australian visas for study abroad purposes are conducted by telephone and by staff of the Australian Visa and Visa Office, in Vietnamese. In addition, IDP will guide students to interview carefully before applying for a visa so that they can answer with confidence. Therefore, you should not be too stressed!

3. Who will be interviewed?

Normally, the person applying for a student visa will be the one who will be called for an interview, but in some cases where international students are younger than 18 years old, the student's parent or guardian will be the person contacted by the Visa Office.

4. How long will the interview last?

The interview time usually lasts from 15-30 minutes. For some special cases, the interview time can last more than 1 hour.

5. What will you be asked during the interview?

The questions during the interview will mostly revolve around the following contents:

- Information about schools, courses in Australia, and study plans: this is one of the topics that every student encounters in an interview. The interviewer will ask you questions about the school, and courses and may even ask you a list of subjects that you will be studying in Australia. In addition, the interviewer will also ask more questions from why you chose the school and field of study to why you chose that city and Australia.

- Housing, part-time work, and student life information in Australia: To make sure that students/parents understand where they or their children will be going, the environment in which they will live in Australia, many questions about part-time jobs, transportation in Australia, meals, and student accommodation are also often asked by the interview staff. You should do your research carefully first, as this is also one of the scoring questions for your Australian visa application.

- The process of studying in Vietnam: for these questions, you and your parents should pay attention because the interviewer may ask you about the name of the school, class, academic ability to even the homeroom teacher or your favorite subject. Therefore, parents should pay special attention to this part, because many parents have not been able to answer questions about their children's learning abilities and learning interests

- Proof of family finances: along with questions about information about study plans in Australia, questions about the family's financial ability will be asked by the Australian visa interviewer. The content of the questions will revolve around the family's income, assets, and accumulations to support their children's learning process in Australia. You and your parents should be careful because these questions will be asked very carefully by the staff and require us to answer them in detail

- The last and decisive factor of the interview is the development plan after graduation. You need to clearly show your intention to return to your home country to work and develop your career, rather than plans to stay in Australia to work even now. According to the 485 visa policy, international students after graduation are allowed to stay for 2-5 years depending on the level of study and region. In addition, you also need to show your ties in Vietnam to prove more clearly to the Consulate about your ability to return to your home country.

6. What do I need to prepare to pass the interview round?

- As mentioned above, not all Australian visa applications need to be interviewed, so please prepare a complete, detailed, coherent, and confidential application.

- Practice answering the mock interview questions provided by IDP about your school, major, accommodation, travel, or part-time job in Australia, as well as your family's financial credentials, etc. v.. As the interview will be recorded for the purpose of serving the Australian visa process for your application, you should answer the questions coherently, slowly, calmly, and confidently, so that the interviewer will show that you are well prepared.

- Always open your phone and be prepared, because turning it off and avoiding all calls is not a good idea while waiting for the visa result.

Wish you all pass the interview round calmly and confidently!
