If you’re dreaming of studying in Australia but concerned about high costs, this scholarship can give you a chance to pursue your studies and live in Australia’s regional areas.
The Destination Australia Program is providing funding of up to AU$15,000 per year through 480 scholarships in 2023.
Read on for everything you need to know about this scholarship, including eligibility requirements, application information, and which tertiary education providers you can apply at.
Funded by the Australian Government, the Destination Australia Program is an initiative to attract and support international and domestic students to study in regional and remote areas of Australia.
The scholarship provides financial assistance of up to AU$15,000, to cover the costs of studying and living in regional Australia, including accommodation and day-to-day expenses - a fantastic opportunity for students who otherwise may not be able to afford it.
The latest round of the program in 2023 sees 480 scholarships being made available across 83 different campuses of 27 tertiary education providers.
This initiative aims to address areas of skill shortages and ensure a sufficient stream of skilled workers in the future in regional Australia, in line with the country’s National Skills Priority List. That would place more teachers, nurses, engineers, and other important workers where they’re needed most. It also makes tertiary education there more accessible to domestic students from underrepresented groups.
You’ll need to apply for a scholarship directly with one of the education providers under the Destination Australia Program.
To be qualify, you must meet the following requirements:
Be an international student with a valid student visa, or an Australian citizen or permanent resident
Be enrolled in or accept an offer of a full-time course of study at an eligible tertiary education provider
Live in a regional area at the start of and during the study period
Meet the academic and English language proficiency requirements of the education institute
