Diversity is important in learning, so American college classes often have students of different nationalities, religions, and ages. This environment will stimulate learning, and encourage students from different cultures to exchange and learn about each other. It is important to find out the necessary information.

IDP has also created a timeline for applying for admission to U.S. universities for you to consider the application deadline and the types of documents required.

Major U.S. Admissions

• Fall Enrollment (August): August to December

• Spring Intake (February): January to April

• Summer Intake (May): May to August

Students usually choose an admission time based on the course, the course start time of a particular university, and school records.

There is an application deadline for each admission period (see below). These terms may vary depending on the school, some majors have different entry times than the main majors. Our team of consultants is ready to advise and provide you with the latest information.

Here, IDP has created a process to guide the steps to apply to study in the US, helping you have an overview of the application process to the school, helping you have better preparation.

Phase 1

Explore your options for studying in the U.S.

Phase 2

Make an appointment with an IDP counselor (from 6 months to 2 years before the start of your studies)

- Make a list of questions about important information such as the cost of living, which university is the best fit, etc.

Phase 3

Register for IELTS if necessary (within 2 years prior to enrolment)

- IELTS Academics

- *English entrance exam waived – please talk to a counselor

Phase 4

Prepare the necessary documents

- Translation of school reports and certificates: depending on the school's requirements

-Passport

- Declaration of what you did after completing your studies: summary of activities in the form of CV/job application, enlistment letter, etc.

- Other documents: Statement of purpose, supporting documents, portfolio, etc.

Phase 5

Apply to the school

- Contact an advisor for a waiver of application fees

- Application Deadline: submit at least 1-2 weeks before the deadline

- Admission: courses are decided by GPA or grade point ranking

Phase 6

Receive an offer letter

- Masters and PhD students will receive an offer letter 4-8 weeks after application

- Bachelor's degree students will receive an offer letter 2-8 weeks after application

**Note: some schools will only consider applications for the admission period of your choice (e.g. Fall 2020 admissions will only consider applications in January 2020)

Phase 7

Receive an offer letter (2 to 5 months before the start of your studies)

- Register accommodation

- Guardianship services (if necessary)

**Note: this does not apply to courses with a limited number of students – applications will close when they are full)

Phase 8

Receiving an I-20 Petition

- 5 to 14 days after acceptance

Phase 9

Apply for a visa

- The counselor will discuss with you the conditions to be accepted for a U.S. student visa and the necessary requirements for your visa

Phase 10

Get a student visa

- 2 to 3 months prior to the start of enrollment

*The decision on whether to issue a visa or not will be known as soon as the consulate staff has finished interviewing you.

Phase 11

Pre-departure Orientation

- 1 month before the start of enrollment
